Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Playa Blanca, once a small fishing village, is now Lanzarote's third resort situated on the most southerly tip of the island.

It has been developed very tastefully over the last ten years, mixing traditional with modern, and there is now a beautiful new promenade which stretches virtually from the Perchiguera Point in the West to Papagayo point in the East, a distance of nearly nine kilometres. The majority of this is occupied by Playa Blanca but the balance is a beautifully rugged coastline.

There are a variety of beaches, notably Playa Dorada, Papagayo (reckoned to be one of the best on the island) and Playa Flamingo. Playa Blanca has a lovely relaxed atmosphere compared to the more upbeat nightlife in Puerto del Carmen, restaurants on the front feature wonderful sea views - perfect for couples and families.

Marina Rubicon is located near Papagayo, a 25 minute stroll along the seafront, at the eastern end of the resort. This stunning seafront development of upmarket restaurants and designer boutiques is next to the beautiful marina of luxury yachts and cruisers.

A market is held twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, where many interesting local products can be seen and bought. Here at the water's edge you can also sit back and sample either the local or international cuisine that is on offer.

Not far from the marina lies Lanzarote’s most spectacular beaches - Papagayo. These beaches are accessed via dirt tracks and there is a small entrance fee.

There are multiple beaches and coves to choose from. However, it is worth noting that this part of the Island is untouched, therefore public facilities, such as toilets and refreshments are limited. There are regular boating trips from Playa Blanca to this part of the Island and this is one place definitely worth a visit.

All along the promenade and in the Playa Blanca itself there are numerous restaurants and bars which can make for super day and/or evening entertainment.

The island of Fuertaventura (the second largest of the Canary Islands) is only 11 kilometres away and there are regular ferry services which only take 40 minutes and can make for a fabulous excursion.
